Discussion of Curriculum Directions over Peanut Butter...

"OK, guys...What would you like to study this school year?"

Max: Pirates!! And Elaine should learn about Princesses!!

Elaine: No, Max...That's history and I don't need to learn history until I'm LOTS older. I want to learn about plants, trees, and flowers.

Max (rolling eyes): Those ARE plants! Zane should learn about the zoo...

Zane: Sure, animals...

Max: And OUTER SPACE!

Momma: Why?

Max: Because I like aliens a bunch...and I like light sabers a bunch...because of Star Wars...

Elaine: I would like to learn about people.

Max: The INSIDE of people! Like bones and hearts and brains. We could go to a museum!

Elaine: I think a book would be better. He's such a boy!

Zane: Animals. I still say animals. Can we stop by the place that made this peanut butter? It's in New York...

Momma: Yes it is, but it's in Greenwich Village and that's in New York City. We're not going into the city.

Elaine: Auntie MoeMoe doesn't live there. She lives in the TOWN of New York, not the CITY...

At least we have geography covered...

(Check out Peanut Butter & Co. at www.ilovepeanutbutter.com We especially recommend the "Cinnamon Raisin Swirl" and the "Dark Chocolate Dreams." No sugar, no trans fats. YUMMY!!

A Pet...of sorts...

I scooped up a praying mantis from the garage window... I figured we would sketch it for our nature notebooks... Next thing we know, the boys are on the dining room table... Watching it eat the beetles and crickets they caught for it... "Look, Eliza!! It's eating the HEAD!!"... I never knew that Eli was squeamish (very satisfied grin)... A Sissy-Girl after all... To add to the "how funny this is" ...Max's ears are very red and swollen from gnat bites... and he's running around having people spell "beetles" and "crickets" for his list...A writer in the making... He just needed something exciting enough to share!!

Think it's Time to Clean?

"Guys, there are ogres on the kitchen set and Cheerios on the altar, so it's time to pick up!" I never knew that my life would end up being so much fun...

Story Time

Me: "Max, Laney, come play with Zelie..."

Max: "Once upon a time there was three little pigs and a big Bad MOMMY."
Laney: "Max!! That is so mean!!"
Max: "Fine. They built their houses out of sticks, wicks and cement..."
Laney: "No Max!! Once upon a time there was a princess. Her name was Zelie and she was 13 years old. She wanted to get married to Prince Max."
Max: "No Laney!!" (Runs around in cercles with his ears plugged singing "la-la-la-la-la")
Laney: "Fine! Prince Zane. Max Max MAX!! (Whose ears are still plugged) I changed it!! Fine."
Max: "The big bad wolf knocked on the door and the three little pigs said 'we're not afraid of you! We've got a CANNON!!"
Laney: No MAX!! Stop it!! No cannons!! Whatever Max."
Max: "The three little pigs lived happily ever after. And got married."
Landy: "She wanted to get married to Prince Zane, but her mother said no. So she went to her fairy godmother and her fairy godmother told her that she would make her mother say yes under one condition. She would have to agree to turn into a swan every night until she was the mother of three childs. The princess said yes, and then asked her mother who also said yes. She got married and right away had three triplets so the spell broke and they lived happily ever after. The end."
Max: "See Zelie? Same ending. Both the same."

A Yes Or No Question

Max: Mommy! May Zane and Laney and I play Risk?

Me: Just a minute, I'm trying to figure out the blog settings...

Max: Mommy! Look at me! It's a Yes-or-No Question!

I wonder where he hears such things...

Max the Driver

"I almost know how to start cars...You twist the key, then you put your feet on the pedals...and you push one...Then it starts (snapping fingers) Rocking-and-Rolling...But we don't know how to start a tarantula's engine...If you get too much hotness, you just turn on the heat vent, but you make it air instead..."

Eliza's just going to have to wait her turn!

Waiting at the Library

"I think I heard a bugle!!"

Thoughtful pause...

"It must be because we're at war with Mexico..."

And so it goes, with Zelie napping happily in the warm spring breeze, while Max finishes his french fries and awaits his turn in the library...
